My brother-in-law wants me to cook some deer meat for him for Thanksgiving. I’m having Turkey and other traditional foods,but he asked me because he has always enjoyed my cooking. I cooked duck for him once and he loved it, so I think he assumes I’ll do a good job with the deer. I’ve never cooked deer before and need some suggestions. Thanks!

Swiss Venison Steak
David Herzog “Cast Iron Covered Wagon Cookin’”
4 venison round steaks
Flour, seasoned with salt, pepper, and granulated garlic
2 Tbs. bacon fat
2 c. tomatoes, chopped
2 onions, sliced
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 tsp. sugar
Dredge steaks in seasoned flour. Heat 12” Dutch oven, add bacon fat and brown steaks on both sides. Add onions, tomatoes, and sugar. Cover and reduce heat, simmering about 1 ½ hours until tender.

What are some reasons a wolf might get “kicked” out of the pack?
I just weatched a documentary on wolves and it stated that lone wolves are usually those who have been “kicked” out of a pack. They are pack hunters and this particular lone wolf attacked a human out camping. It said that lone wolves have a harder time hunting and needs to find weaker and smaller prey.

A lot has to do with behavior. Mostly disrespecting the Alpha female wolf or alpha male wolf is a big no no. Another thing they just cant get a long with others. Wolves are very social animals and have a hierarchy and if one cant get along especially with the alpha female or male out it goes. Food too. Inability to make (help) make kills (can’t) perform is another reason. Or just came from another pack but well things just did not work out. Or the wolf has been there for a while but has one heck of a nasty attitude. One thing for sure the pack WILL protected its own, the real members of the pack. Picks out the weak and the traitors and will send them packing.

.50 cal. CVA Elipse 209 “Magnum” Muzzleloader, is a 2 X20 Bushnell Banner a good scope for it?
A Hunting Friend of mine mounted and bore sighted a 2 X 20 Bushnell Banner scope on my muzzleloader. I haven’t tried it yet, do you think it is a good scope for my muzzleloader from 0 – 100 yards?
The factory sights are still intact, the scope is marked and mounted, so you can still use sights or leave scope on.
* I recommend you not scope the CVA. You lose your perspective in the woods. You ought to be able to see your target well enough out to 100 yds. I DO recommend (highly) a red-dot scope w/o magnification. Quick target aquisition, sharp aiming point, no loss os target switching from line of sight to red dot, no eye relief concerns.
I use them on my smoke pole, my shotgun, my Ruger Blackhawk for anything that wanders within 100 yds – pigs, deer, javalina, bears, elk.
