I live in FL too…and I have a conceal permit.
However, you do not need a permit to carry a firearm in your car…whether it is loaded or not. FL has some of the most liberal gun laws in the nation.
There are some stipulations to this as always.
Here goes.
You can carry a loaded handgun in your car, but it has to be kept in a “lockable” compartment…. it doesn’t have to be locked but it has to be able to be locked. There is no “three step rule”..that is a myth. The weapon cannot ever be in plain veiw(you cannot brandish it in public or display it on the dashboard), but cannot be concealed “on or about your person” unless you have a permit. “on or about your person” means you can’t have it stashed in backpack or tucked under your seat or in your belt…. it has to be by itself in a lockable compartment. You are not required by law to inform an officer that you have it unless he asks…but sometimes it is a good idea if he is about to search your car anyway…they don’t appreciate surprises.
You can carry a loaded rifle in your car. It too must be in a sealed enclosure…like a gun case…and be able to be locked… best place for a rifle is in the trunk.
These same rules apply to any weapon…not just firearms.. like knives, nanchaku’s,….even a screwdriver could be construed as a weapon if tucked under the seat.
Crosscheck me, by calling your local sheriff’s department. And if you have the opportunity….go ahead and take a concealed weapons class…they will explain all of this in detail. You do not need to take the class to get a permit, but there are some tricky buracrasies that they will help you navigate so it’s worth it if you really want to get it….otherwise it is still very educational.

First off, I’m not a cop. I want to be in the future, but I’m only 16 now. I have a 10 gallon tank with a filter quietflow10 Aqueon. It works a little over a month. I recently received a new cartridge filter because the old has gone wrong. I took it out and was muddy looking (brown). Is that beneficial bacteria, or just dirt. The filter has a catridge no carbon, sponge, or anything.
