How do I regain my respect for my fellow Americans?
I’ve long gotten over George W. Bush being elected (and re-elected) president. All along I’ve known that no matter what happened, he couldn’t be president forever.
And now he’s a lame-duck who only has two years remaining in office.
But the sickening idea that more than 50 million of my fellow Americans could elect (and re-elect) someone like that, is something that will never go away, and will haunt me to my grave.
I can’t stomach the feeling that Americans no longer have the high standards they once did when it comes to choosing their leaders, considering that the last two presidents have been draft-dodgers.
Virtually anyone living outside the United States will agree (word for word) with what I just said.
I don’t think the commander-in-chief should be required to have prior military experience, but I do have issues with electing someone who hides in Canada (or has daddy and grand-daddy pull some strings) to get out of serving.
Well, pretty much, you just named every announced presidential candidate for 2008.
