Army ROTC Green to Gold Active Duty Option?
Can anyone tell me about the Army ROTC Green to Gold Active Duty Option? I was wondering how this works as I am enlisting as a 31B PVT Active Duty. Do I still perform my job as an MP? How do I earn a 4 year college degree in 2 years? Would I be able to stay an MP? Would I have to be sent to a different base?
You ask a lot of things here, so let me try and break it down while still summarizing it all.
If you got G2G with active duty, you would essentially be going to school for 2 years to get your degree while being paid your active duty salary plus BAH, BAS, etc.
However, this is not something you would be able to do a sa new soldier. This kind of thing is very popular and very competetive, meaning you need to put in your time first as an enlisted soldier and prove your worth. They need to feel that you have leadership potential in you and that you would benefit the Army as an officer. I promise you now that your commander isn’t going to recommend you for it as a brand new private fresh from AIT.
And you would not be able to get a 4 year degree in 2 years. You need about 2 years worth of credit to even apply as you will be going to school for another two years to finish getting the degree to become an officer.
But let us suppose you do get it sometime down the road. You would basically be taking Army ROTC for two years at whatever school you got accepted into and earn your commission.
And yes, you could stay in the MP branch if you wanted, but you would be doing it as an officer and not as enlisted. I can tell you now that the officer side of it will be a lot different than the enlisted side and for some people that is okay and for others it isn’t. It just depends on the person.
