Help with Climbing Shoes?
I’m new to the climbing world and I’m looking for shoes….My question is if I wear a 6 1/2 in everyday shoes what is the size correlation with climbing shoes? Should I stick to the same size I wear or go up or down a size?
Since you are new to climbing, your best bet is to probably go to the store and try them out. Don’t worry too much about sizes in the beginning. If your feet fit into 6.5s, then I would probably buy a pair of 6.5 climbing shoes. Although shoes will stretch over time, I wouldn’t worry about them initially. You can buy something around half to a full size down and the shoes will stretch, but it will be painful. Honestly, it won’t make a difference until you start hitting 5.11-5.12s. You can probably wear socks when you begin too, as these won’t make a difference until you start hitting really difficult climbs.
If you’re buying shoes, I’d stick to a pair of cheap climbing shoes to begin with. You’ll find out that you can wear through climbing shoes rather quickly with bad footwork. Once you get better, than you’ll want to pick higher performance shoes with thinner rubber.
