1 mile rifle shot? What all will alter the path of the bullet? Good target?
For fun I want to try a 1 mile shot. A buddy of mine has land on the River flats I can use I just have to measure out the mile. What all will effect the bullet? I plan on using my Remington Gamemaster 760 30.06 rifle with 3×9 tasco scope. Will that have the power and accuracy? I can also borrow a .300 Win Mag with a leapold (sorry I don’t know the size) scope if my gun won’t cut it. Also, what would you consider a realistic target? I was thinking 55 gallon drum, but that seems a little big to be a good challenge.

No shit Cale. Alot of our river flats were farm land but when the river flooded in ’92 it covered them in sand and now nothing grows there. There’s a few mile long stretch of old fields I plan on using. Nothing in the way.
Everything hangfire said is correct.
The only thing that hasn’t been mentioned is the coriolis effect (the spinning of the earth.) THATS RIGHT, over this distance, even that comes into effect.
Also I know you have said you will be on a flat but just for reference, if there is a gully between you and the target, there is a change in air pressure. This makes your shot even longer.
If I was shooting, I would go with the .300 WM, a mil dot scope would help.
