Taxidermy? Using borax, so i soak or cover?
I just shot a squirrel and I’m mounting the whole thing. I’m using borax as my preserver. Do i soak the skin in the borax water? Or do I just pour the borax on it? I have no kit, so for head original bones stay (for head) So if soaking works then the head will be easier.
So can I put a lot or borax in water and soak it?
Don’t soak the skin. It will cause the hair to slip. Make sure you have scraped off all the flesh and fat first. Then rub it thoroughly with borax. I would buy a kit though. Old school taxidermy sounds cool, but have you ever seen the old stuff? They don’t really stand the test of time. Kits are cheap and you could just freeze the skin until it arrives.
