Flashlight Light

Flashlight Light
If a spacecraft is traveling at the speed of light and a flashlight is turned on pointing the opposite way…?

would the light coming from the flashlight stand perfectly still? If so how can it since light is made of photons that behave with wave-like properties?

would a person that happens to spacewalk into that trail of photons see light if he moves forward one inch and then can’t see it if he stops moving forward?

Be extremely careful when you talk about any object with ordinary rest mass traveling at the speed of light. It takes infinite energy to get an ordinary object to the speed of light, and is therefore impossible.

You should change your wording to use, say “99% of the speed of light”, or some other fraction. In such a case, both a member on board the spacecraft and the “stationary” space walker will see the light beam as traveling at the speed of light. This is one of the postulates of relativity, the speed of light always equals its fundamental value in all reference frames.

You might want to study the equations of special relativity to understand this more. They were derived from the light clock thought experiment. Relative relativistic speeds do not add up as you naively understand for slower moving objects. Time is not as much a constant value when relativistic effects occur.

On this follow-up to Mothership Connection, George Clinton uncharacteristically sticks to the same funk-disco formula. Unlike most sequels, however, this 1977 work is nearly as compelling as the original. Check your brain at the door while Clinton feeds you infectious dance rhythms and irreverent lyrics that fuse anthemic chants with bizarre fairy tales and stream-of-consciousness ramblings. On “W…

The Best Of Parliament: Give Up The Funk

$4.50

For legal reasons too complicated to dive into, George Clinton forged two bands, Parliament and Funkadelic, out of what had just been one. In loose terms, Parliament was thought to be the more commercially viable of his insane clown posses, so it’s not surprising that most of the tracks on this essential package made it to the radio. And radio never had it so good, since Parliament’s idea of Top 4…
