Alaska Bush

Alaska Bush
Besides Bush being an oil man, why doesn’t America turn coal to oil or drill in Alaska for our own oil?

I mean, we could be self-dependent, and not have to worry about these outrageous gas prices. Is it just me, or does this sound like a no-brainer to anyone else?

Here’s the deal- the oil companies that run America and own the politicians control the supply of oil that is available in order to drive up the prices. The Alaskan Pipeline and the right to drill for oil in Alaska came in the 70′s during the so called gas shortage. The oil companies told congress that if they were allowed to drill for oil in Alaska, and have the taxpayers pay for the construction of the pipeline from Alaska to the state of Washington, it would forever end our dependence on foreign oil, and there was a 600 year supply of oil in Alaska. Congress agreed and had the pipeline built at taxpayer expense. The terminal in Washington state was built to load up oil tanker ships and was not built with a land terminal to load up tanker trucks. To this day, all the Alaskan oil that comes to Washington state is exported by the oil companies overseas to increase their profit margin. When Questioned by this on “60 minutes ” the oil exec said it was simply more profit to export it then to distribute it to the states via truck. That is one of the reasons that we are the worlds fifth largest exporter oil. We have plenty of gas, what we don’t have is enough backbone in congress to stand up to big oil and do what is right for the American consumer. The supply and demand is not a valid argument when there is a cartel of oil companies creating a shortage and manipulating the prices of their product. Think about this- how can the oil companies justify record profits at a time of record high prices? It’s called greed!
