A premature infant typically lacks subcutaneous adipose tissue. Also, the surface area of an infant’s small body is relatively large compared to its volume. How do you think these factors affect the ability of an infant to regulate its body temperature?
I’m not qualified to answer that question. However, I fathered 4 children, most of them were 6 weeks early. Just keep them warm when it’s not warm out. When the weather is fine, let them feel more of the outdoors temperatures.
I do know there are two things you want to avoid; letting baby get too cold and letting baby get too hot. Of the two, the worse is the heat.
Just use good judgment. If the baby seems lethargic, and feels hot – cool em off. If baby is cold to the touch, more blankets.
