Waterproofing canvas tent?
I did something really stupid this last hunting season and tried to waterproof my cabela’s outfitters canvas wall tent with Thompson’s Waterproof Sealer that’s meant to go on wood decks. Very bad idea. The stuff never dried even after sitting out for a week in dry windy conditions. Yikes, what to do????
Actually it should have worked but I’ll bet you used the “white stuff” water base…..doesnt work..
Baer water proofing works but again it’s gotta be “oil based” ..the clear stuff.
oil based sealer is getting almost impossible to find now a days with all those enviromentalists ruining every thing.But if you can find some oil based sealer like thompsons “water proofer” it works well but only if it’s the clear stuff……again ( oil based)
hang your tent up away from a wall or fence ( so it isnt touching anything and put the sealer in a metal coffee can and use a paint brush , starting at the top and just brush it on and let stand 3 or 4 days ….after a week it is no more flamable than any piece of cotton material.
