For the avid duck hunter there are dozens of items available to him for his hunt. Whether they help to keep him warm and comofortable, or increase his chances of bagging some fowl, all the items have their place on a hunter’s supply list.
With the advent of the internet, a hunter has more options than ever for researching and purchasing duck hunting supplies. Many stores exist online that sell every supply a hunter could ever want, and there are many catalogs delivered right to a hunter’s door that he can order from. The local hunting store still has it’s place though; especially for the hunter just starting out, there is no greater resource than talking to an expert in person. Some supplies duck hunters purchase are boats, blinds, guns and accessories, camouflage clothing and gear, footwear, duck calls, and much more.
While duck blinds are at the top of an avid hunter’s list of necessities, the hunter has his choice from a variety of different types, all in different price ranges. A lot of money need not be spent to have a quality blind to shield you from a duck’s watchful eye. If the hunter has access to private land, he may choose to construct his own duck blind using plywood, paint, and natural vegetation of the area. A duck blind’s only purpose is to allow the hunter to stay hidden from the ducks, while giving him windows to see out of to shoot. For the hunter with a boat there are also many options for blinds available to shield both him, his boat, and even a dog if he’s using one. Duck boat blinds often use elastic to hold them in place over the boat, and the best part is that they are made with the duck hunter in mind. They have specially constructed windows both towards the sky and the water, allowing the hunter unrestricted shooting angles and sight lines. There are also options available for the hunter’s companion, the bird dog. The dog is able to see out, but with camouflage material, the duck’s aren’t alerted to his presence.

The most important thing a hunter must do is to invest in good quality hunting clothing. Because duck hunting is often done in wet areas in the fall of the year, cold and wet weather is something a duck hunter faces often. There is no worse hunting trip than one that ends early due to a hunter underestimating his need for good clothing. Finding pieces that are camouflaged will always be a hunter’s best option. Some other things to look for are items that are warm, waterproof and comfortable. Some items available are jackets, coats, parkas, coveralls, waders, bibs, pants, shirts, gloves, footwear, thermal underwear, rainwear, hats, facemasks, suspenders, and belts. Keeping these few things in mind will keep a hunter prepared for whatever weather conditions might await him.
